The Final Words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer to Bishop George Bell Through Captain Payne Best

Moments before Dietrich Bonhoeffer was taken away from his fellow prisoners in order to be executed, he said to Captain Payne Best to pass on a message to Bishop George Bell:
“Tell the Bishop that for me this is the end but also the beginning. With him (the Bishop) I believe in the principle of our Universal Christian brotherhood which rises above all national interests, and that our victory is certain” (Quoted in Costly Grace: An Illustrated Introduction to Dietrich Bonhoeffer by Eberhard Bethge, 133).
