I did watch this, with much difficulty. The horrors of the holocaust were all too real and graphic. It was hard to watch, but I didn’t want to “not watch” because I want to know and be aware of the horrible events that took place. Hard too to believe that “ordinary” people like the Germans followed the orders of a mad man and mercilessly slaughtered so many people. Hard to comprehend what kinds of minds could to this to other human beings. More than hard – it’s impossible to understand.

What horrified me even more was the complicity of the German people even though they had been warned by Hitler that if victory was not complete, there would be no limit to the horrorific reprisals that would be visited upon them. How the German people reacted is the essence of this video ans it is told from the view point of the German people. They are not proud of it…

I am a 61yr old Jew. All my life I have watched and been hypnotised by such documentaries as this. How could this happen? Millions and millions murdered. Jew and non-Jew alike. Such suffering and misery. Thank God for Americas “greatest generation.” The generation that sacrificed so much to defeat this madman and his nation of murderers. Hitler was right about one thing. The Third Reich will last for a 1,000yrs. As a precautionary lesson to all decent and God fearing people of the world. Never again!

Hi Mark,
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Hitler and the Nazis committed a great atrocity against the Jewish people. Yes, never again!

Just curious. Do the people of Germany see this documentary like we do in this country? Does anybody know? I hope they do. Since the “Master Race” is responsible for two world wars…………..and millions and millions of needless deaths. “Master Race” indeed.

Mark,
I do believe most Germans today are aware of Hitler and his crimes against humanity. I am not sure if they saw this documentary in Germany.

I hope so Bryan. I hope so. They need to be aware. The whole world needs to be aware. It’s not to put a “guilt-trip” on the Germans. This kind of madness can happen anywhere. Anytime. By any people. And already has. That’s the lesson to be learned.

I’m watching it right now. I’m 26 and it was not until I saw this film on the fall of the 3rd Reich (instead the usual focused on Hitler’s his rise), did I realize and appreciate my grandparent’s generation, the Greatest Generation as mentioned before. They went in there and saved the world. Although Spielberg has done a good job too of reminding us of this.

My Father was a Pearl Harbor survivor and indeed fought all through WWII.. The stories he would tell to make sure none of us would ever forget the horrors of war is still embedded in our minds but it wasn’t until in his later years that DEEP depression set in. At that time he stopped eating and sleeping as he relived the sights and sound of war. So hard to see a very strong man , a father of nine children fall to his knees sixty years after the fact…A TRUE hero but he only felt guilt that he survived as he watched his BROTHERS fall…

Doris,
I lived in Hawaii for eight years. As a matter of fact, I could see Pearl Harbor from the church that I was a pastor of in Aiea. Your father was a true hero. Thank you for sharing this. Bryan

Thanks Bryan,
Sometime I think a lot of people do not really understand the sacrifices some make so they can live free…My husband is also a Vietnam veteran..I remember that when he got home we had to be careful as many would rather spit on him than thank him…And as for now he is a 30yr veteran on the police force and last Nov. 20Th was hit by a hit and run driver while on duty…still in rehab and won’t be able to return to duty and the city will not let him stay on light duty so therefore we do not know what we will do. He was going to retire but not until he found another job for insurance reasons…I take care of my 86yr old Mother with alzhimers. She can not be left alone..Just seems like no one cares but that will not keep me from doing what is right..Can You tell me a little bit about Hawaii ???? I won’t ever see it but would like to hear more about it……Thank you Doris….

I agree Doris! I will be praying for your husband’s full recovery. I am thankful for people like him who has served and protected our nation. You have a lot on your plate. Hawaii is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. My family and I lived there for eight years. There are mountains and the ocean and perfect temperatures throughout the year. The people there are among the most beautiful on earth. We miss it, especially during the winter!! Blessings Doris. Bryan

This is a very powerful documentary. It really tells the lesson on how it can be so easy for anyone to become the evil without knowing it. I’d like to see the History channel make a similar documentary on the East front, especially what the Japanese did to hundred of thousands of innocent people by using them for live human “medical experiments”. We shall not forget any part of our history and should learn from it.

Americans always make it about Americans – watch it again and listen to the statistics. Google Eastern Front…and we act like the Russians had nothing to do with defeat
