Perhaps the one thing at the Preacher’s Seminary at Finkenwalde which the students quesioned the most was the daily requirement by Seminary Director, Dietrich Bonhoeffer to meditate on the scriptures…

The students…rebelled against this “Catholicism” and even made jokes about the Far-Eastern fads of the directorhe evidently had the energy to carry through both these and other things which somewhat broadened the horizons of the German probationary minsiters of that time.

However, “Bonhoeffer’s proposed to substitute a light meal for the heavy German lunch, with the principal meal in the evening, met with insurmountable opposition.”

(Renate Wind, Dietrich Bonhoeffer: A Spoke in the Wheel, 102).
