Join us on Thursday, Jan. 29 beginning at 1:30 p.m. for the first Encore Academy class of 2015. We will have on hand one of our favorite presenters, retired pastor Richard Jorgensen, who will share his knowledge of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a rising young theologian from a prominent Berlin family, was a leader among the minority of Christians who resisted Adolf Hitler’s remaking of the German Christian Church in the 1930s. Studying in New York when the clouds of war began to gather over Europe, his American friends urged him to remain among them for the duration of the conflict, but he felt compelled to return to his country, where he became increasingly involved in a small anti-Nazi movement, including participating in a plan to end the war by assassinating Hitler. The plot was uncovered and Bonhoeffer was executed just days before the end of World War II.
